Aventurine Green Metallic: The Connoisseur's 993

Some colors you notice from across the street. Aventurine Green you notice from two meters away, and then you cannot stop looking. In most light it plays as a very dark, almost formal shade, and only up close, in sun, does the green fully declare itself, deep and mossy with a metallic shimmer running through it.

It is the least obvious choice in the whole 993 palette, which is exactly why the people who chose it tend to be the most interesting owners at any meet. Nobody buys Aventurine Green to be seen. They buy it because they know.

What Aventurine Green Metallic actually is

Aventurine Green Metallic (Aventuringrün) is a dark metallic green from the nineties, named after the shimmering aventurine mineral, which tells you what the metallic flake is doing here: not lifting the color the way it does in a silver, but adding depth, like light on deep water.

It belongs to a small family of nineties Porsche greens that have aged from oddball choices into some of the most sought-after colors of the era. Dark green on a sports car was a statement against fashion then. It is timeless now. Factory code 39r.

Which cars wore it

In the Heckblick catalog Aventurine Green Metallic lives on the 993 Carrera, and there are people who will tell you, with complete conviction, that a 993 in this color is the single best-looking air-cooled 911 configuration there is. I am not going to argue with them on their own color page.

The narrow path between green and gone

Dark green is one of the trickiest families to print faithfully, and Aventurine sits at the dark end of it.

The failure mode is disappearance. Drift the tone a little too dark, or let the green content thin out, and the print stops reading as green at all: it becomes a vague charcoal that could be any dark color, which for a paint whose entire identity is that late, quiet reveal of green would miss the point completely. Overcorrect in the other direction and you get a green that is too eager, too bright, British-racing-green-poster-shop green, which this color has never been.

And because matte fine art paper amplifies whatever tint sits in a dark tone, the margin is narrower on paper than on any screen. So Aventurine goes through the same discipline as every color in my catalog: proofed on a physical test print, on the exact 200gsm matte stock I ship, in a 12-color giclée process, judged in daylight. The print has to do what the paint does — read dark and dignified across the room, and unmistakably green when you step closer. The hex that survived that test is #3A5766.
